Collect data on a large planned
network intevention (such as a road-works or road closure by use of
extensive on-street registation plate surveys
The end goal is to advance the state-of-the-art in network modelling by
providing a bridge between theory and practice. More accurate network
modelling could enable transport planners to better predict traffic
behaviour and thereby mitigate the worst effects of congestion and
pollution.
An initial survey of the closure of Lendal Bridge in York was performed but
problems were encountered with fuel shortages and also flooding. Some
data is available from this survey but a new survey is being planned.
Project Objectives
The objectives of the grant are as follows:
Develop and apply statistical
techniques for analysing such data, combined with data from a stated
preference survey, while taking account of ambient daily variability
Use these data and techniques
to investigate a number of behavioural hypothesis to explain the dynamics
of driver route choice.
