Data Sources -- York (Fishergate) Data

This data is from the partial closure of Fishergate a main route into the city of York. The map (which is not to scale) below shows the study area and flows recorded (with direction).

Map of York
The roadworks were positioned in such a way that flow at site A was severely affected but flow at site B (which was low anyway) was not affected (except by blocking back down Fulford Road).

Licence plate data

The data has been cleaned and the numbers scrambled to protect privacy. The data has timestamps which should be accurate to within two or three minutes (timed with synchronised handheld stopwatches).

Fishergate left and right turns day one (see notes)
A) Fishergate left turners
B) Fishergate right turners
C) Paragon Street
D) Skeldergate Bridge
E) Fulford Road
F) University Road
G) Lawrence Street
H) Blossom Street
I) Queen Street
J) Rougier Street
K) Cemetery Road
Note: The fishergate day one data was collected in a different way with two people recording the data further down castle mills and not noting right turns onto paragon street.
Known issues with data:
Sites H,I,J - data starts at 8:00 and runs to 9:30. All other sites, data starts at 7:45 and runs to 9:15. This is to increase the matches and allow for the fact that it takes cars a finite amount of time to get through the network.
Skeldergate 11/07/01 - data cuts off at 8:30
Lawrence Street 06/07/01 - data missing due to staff illness

Matching software c source code (tar'd and gzip'd) for programs to match plates between sites in various ways is included. It was written for unix but should work on any platform with a good C compiler. The "matchlots" program can be used to produce a matrix of matches between sites. The "convplate" program was used to check the original data for times and to interpolate 1 minute timings from the original 5 minute timings. The "matchplate" program does a simple match for two sites. Note that the numbers on these plates have been scrambled to preserve the privacy of York citizens.
